4th of July

My favorite month of the year is July. The warm summer air, crisp cold watermelon, homemade ice cream, barbecues, fireworks, family...

This year we had a great celebration. We woke early and enjoyed watching the hot air balloons inflate... and then, because of the wind, deflate again. Even though the giants never took flight, we enjoyed the cool summer morning together.

After a breakfast of waffles and bacon and super cold orange juice, we trekked ourselves up to the cabin in Scofield. We toured the city festivities, paid way too much money for the girls to jump around in the inflatables, and indulged in snow cones. After a full afternoon of fun our tummies were rumbling for fire roasted hot dogs which were quite delicious.

Grandma and Grandpa McGarry joined us in our celebration. The July air was chilly by the water, but the fire in the pit and the company warmed us right up.

The girls found ways to entertain themselves until the grand fireworks show. A makeshift stage enticed some lovely performances while we stoked the coals for our smores.
Aunt Ann found gigantic roasting marshmallows. After one of those, the girls had no problem staying awake until the big show.Unfortunately, I have no pictures of the most amazing fireworks show in the state. (Next year) All I can say is that it's breathtaking and we were so happy that the Berrett family was able to join us. We had the best seats around, lounging along the shore directly in front of the island where you could see the torches run up and down lighting the fuses. The display was reflected in the blackness of the water and the booms echoed down the canyon. It was a wonderful 4th celebration. I am proud to be an American!
