The immense swirls of turquoise and emerald sea water nibbling the edge of countless islands occupied my attention as our flight descended into San Juan, Puerto Rico. On the ground, the rush of heat and humidity warmed our frost bit toes and we knew we were tasting the first of our cruise adventure 2008! Even though our day started at the wee hour of 3:00 in the morning, our fatigue did not stop us from partaking of the soft sea air. Directly after dropping our luggage off at our hotel, we marched our little flip flops to the closest beach which happened to be only a block away. Now this is what I have been anticipating!
All the sitting that Friday gave us a mighty appetite that a quaint little authentic Puerto Rican restaurant cured effortlessly. Mmmm. Sauteed onions with grilled chicken and steak complimented with thick and hearty steak fries. Delicious!
Our hefty meal sent us all in a near comatose state as we trekked past the upscale shops back to our accommodations for the night. My head hit the pillow already dreaming of what tomorrow would bring...
Saturday morning brought a delightful warm sun which coaxed us out of bed earlier than we wanted, but the old fort of San Juan was beckoning for us to see what it had to offer.
The architecture was so amazing, even the cemetery neighbored by the sea was breathtaking.
Holding hands with Jon in this magical place was so amazing! I missed my children immensely! But since they were in the great care of my parents, I allowed myself to truly enjoy every minute spent with my man, a man who has worked so hard to provide us such incredible opportunities.
Love you, baby!!!
Because we were in the care of the greatest travel agency ever, Destinations, we were expedited through customs and onto the ship without any wait at all. As I put my bag down on the carefully starched and strategically made bed I laid my head on the pillow and exhaled. Ahhhhh. We've arrived!
